The Daily Mail reports that multiple explosions were reported at 12:45 a.m. local time at the Sagami General Depot in Sagamihara City, Japan. Locals say they heard loud explosions coming from the facility and an orange blaze could be seen in the distance. Photos of smoke and fire billowing from the compound have been posted to a number of media outlets online.

Shingetsu News , a local publication, said that the initial explanation for the blasts was that there had been an “accidental fire” at a storehouse holding explosives. However, the Pentagon has yet to confirm the cause of the fire or if any fatalities have been reported. Meanwhile, Shingetsu News is reporting that the US military has called Japanese fire departments to the scene. However, the military reportedly put restrictions on the fire department and are not allowing water to be used to douse the fire.
