Verizon Wireless will launch the Motorola Droid 2 on Thursday, the phone is the first to launch with Google Android 2.2, also known as Froyo and it is the first phone to feature Adobe Flash 10.1.
In terms of hardware, the specs are pretty standard when compared to the original Droid with a 3.7? WVGA touchscreen monitor offering a vertical sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 5MP camera with autofocus and a dual-LED Flash. The phone also offers a built-in GPS receiver, WiFi and Bluetooth.
The unit also features a 1GHz ARM processor, 8GB built-in memory and a keyboard that is definitely more user friendly than the original.
The Droid 2 will cost $199 after a $100 mail-in-rebate and the signing of a two-year contract with calling plans starting at a ridiculous $70 per month and 3G mobile hotspot service for $20 additional if the user choosing the additional data plan.
Verizon is also expected to eventually release a Star Wars edition that will come loaded with exclusive content and a look to match R2-D2. The Star Wars edition of the Smartphone will be Empire Strikes Back themed and users can find out when it’s available by following @DroidLanding via Twitter.
