A bizarre tale of a mom who marries her son and then proceeds to marry her daughter will baffle you. On March 26, 2016, Patricia and Misty Spann tied the knot. According to court documents, Patricia Spann persuaded Misty Spann that their union was lawful despite their biological kinship. Patricia, Misty’s mother, is forty-four.
Six months after their marriage, in September 2016, both ladies were arrested and charged with incest, as per The Washington post. Misty Spann, 26, entered a guilty plea to incest on Tuesday. In August 2016, a child welfare investigator looked into Patricia Spann’s complex relationship with her kids after discovering that she and Misty Spann, who lived in Duncan, Oklahoma, might have been having an incestuous relationship.
According to an affidavit, Patricia Spann disclosed to the state’s Department of Human Services child welfare investigator that she had three children from a prior marriage: two sons and a daughter named Misty. The children were adopted by their paternal grandmother, and Spann had long since lost custody of them. According to the affidavit, she informed the investigator that she had not spoken to any of her children until a few years ago, when she and Misty Spann reconnected and “hit it off.”
Patricia Spann added that since her daughter’s name is no longer on the birth certificate, she “had looked into” the regulations and came to the conclusion that marrying her is lawful. A police detective discovered that Misty Spann’s paternal grandmother is listed as her birth mother in her birth certificate from the state’s Office of the Inspector General. Police think that after Spann’s children were adopted, the document was altered.
In 2017, Misty Spann was sentenced to probation after marrying her biological mother. And that’s not even the wildest part… Patricia had already married her son before. 😳 pic.twitter.com/hBhcUXLyDC

Nonetheless, the document states that Patricia Spann is listed as Misty Spann’s birth mother on her original birth certificate from the hospital where she was born. Additionally, Patricia Spann did not use her daughter’s last name. The marriage license, which the couple acquired from a nearby county, listed her name as Patricia Ann Clayton.
It’s unknown when Spann’s children were adopted by their grandmother or why she lost custody of them. However, investigators discovered that Patricia Spann had other biological children besides Misty Spann.
She married one of her sons, who was eighteen at the time, in December 2008. According to court documents, he submitted an annulment request in March 2010. According to the affidavit, he cited incest as the cause. Incest charges don’t seem to have been brought at that time.
Investigators later discovered Patricia had previously married her biological son in 2008. That marriage was annulled in 2010 due to incest charges.
The mother-daughter marriage was discovered during a child welfare check by the Department of Human Services.

In September, Misty Spann filed for annulment, claiming incest and fraud. According to the petition, Patricia Spann informed her daughter that she had spoken with three attorneys, all of whom had told her that their marriage would not be troubled. A district court judge declared last month that Patricia Spann “induced” her daughter “by fraud to enter the marriage,” nullifying the union.
In Oklahoma, incest carries a maximum sentence of ten years in jail. According to the Tulsa World, Misty Spann entered into a plea agreement and was given a 10-year deferred sentence. This indicates that a judge has delayed the imposition of a punishment for ten years. Following this, Misty Spann appeared in court again, and the case against her will be dropped.
