When Netflix announced they were bringing back the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer , fans of the movie were leery. Then it was announced that original cast members were returning to shoot the Netflix movie.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp will act as a prequel to the original film, Wet Hot American Summer . According to David Wain , “In real life we’re 15 years older but in the show we’re playing two months younger. The movie took place on the last day of camp in the summer of 1981. The show takes place on the first day.”

It seems like everyone was excited to film Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer , but cast member Molly Shannon said one shoot was particularly “painful.”

According to E! News , Shannon detailed a shoot which they had to film during the winter in L.A. That doesn’t sound too bad, but Molly wasn’t too happy about it.

“It was freezing cold and we were shooting in the winter in L.A. We shot all night in shorts and we had to pretend like it was warm. I had tan tights on and we had to shoot until the sun came up. It was painful. We were freezing.”

That said, Shannon said she did have an excellent time returning to the characters. Of returning she said that it, “just felt fun. It didn’t even feel like work.”

Fifteen years has passed between the first movie and the second. According to Molly, the biggest difference is that most of the cast are now parents.

“We all have kids now. We can’t believe all that time has passed, but so many of us have kids and all we talked about were our kids.”

Just for a head count, the cast members that returned are Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter.

In addition to the old cast members, new additions include Josh Charles, John Slattery, Michaela Watkins, Randall Park, Jayma Mays, Paul Scheel, Rob Huebel, and Richard Schiff have all joined.

As for when fans of the film can see the Netflix version of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp , the film will hit Netflix on July 31.
