“ Gangnam Style ” continues its dominance of pop culture with 325 million YouTube views and counting. So why not politics?

You’ve probably seen South Korean rapper Psy — a.k.a. PSY, real name Park Jae-sang — on American television ( Today Show , Extra , and others) performing his horse dance from his beyond-viral international megahit music video. Countless “Gangnam Style” tributes and parodies — from baseball , football , and basketball cheerleaders to the US Naval Academy and Saturday Night Live — have been uploaded to the Internet. Even Google boss Eric Schmidt was caught on video dancing to “Gangnam Style.” Apparently Psy’s “Gangnam Style” is the most liked video in YouTube history.

So now even GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney , with the help of the Tonight Show technical staff of course, is going “Gangnam Style” (see clip below) retroactively from the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

In case you’re wondering, the Examiner provides more background on the thought process behind Psy’s “Gangnam Style”:

“PSY has been reported saying that he wanted to make an untraditional and fun form of music that would take away people’s trouble. He also explained the title of the hit single saying that Gangnam represents the Beverly Hills of Korea and the song was made to poke fun at people who try ‘so hard to be something that they’re not.’ ”

“This sudden worldwide success has opened up doors of opportunity for PSY.”

According to the Boston Herald , Psy remarked on the Today Show , “I’m not handsome, I’m not tall, I’m not muscular, I’m not skinny. But I’m sitting here.” He attributed his success to “soul or attitude.”
