Miranda Lambert had a good night at the CMA Awards. Taking her entire household into account, it was a great night.

Lambert combined with husband Blake Shelton to win a slew of awards at the 46th Country Music Association Awards including a song of the year honors that they shared.

The biggest award for Miranda Lambert was a win for female vocalist, the Los Angeles Times noted . To win the award, Lambert beat out a strong class of nominees including Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift, and Carrie Underwood.

“I don’t necessarily deserve this, but I’ll take it,” Miranda Lambert said as she mentioned the category’s other nominees. “I’m going to stand up here and try to represent for all the female up-and-comers.”

Blake Shelton also took another big honor, winning songwriter of the year, Fox News noted .

“For me as a songwriter that is as personal as I can get,” Shelton said. “So that songwriter award, song of the year award, it will have its own shelf. It will have spotlights on it and an alarm and everything. Trip wires and there will be a land mine if you walk towards it. It is a real big deal to Miranda and I.”

Youth was served at the CMA Awards. Many of the awards went to newer stars rather than veteran country artists, with many of the winners drawing strongly on rock and roll rather than strictly country music, the Los Angeles Times noted.

Eric Church’s Chief was picked for album of the year, with Lambert and Shelton’s “Over You” beating out the hit “Pontoon” from Little Big Town for song of the year. New artist of the year went to Hunter Hayes, a 21-year-old pop-singer who has been getting attention since he was a preschooler performing on the Cajun button accordion.

Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, and other winners of the CMA were determined by balloting among 8,000 members of the Nashville-based CMA. Membership includes musicians, producers, and professionals from record companies and radio.
