Minecraft inventor Markus Persson says that he hates being a billionaire and that human interactions have become “impossible.” Persson, just 35-years-old, sold his company Mojang AB which included the game Minecraft to Microsoft for $1.5 billion. The wealthy computer programmer says that the quick riches have made him feel “isolated” and that once you have everything you could ever want, “you run out reasons to keep trying.”
Minecraft inventor Markus Persson says that he is not an entrepreneur or businessman, but rather a simple “nerdy computer programmer.” Persson pointed out that he tried to do what was right when he sold the company and that a lot of effort went into ensuring that his employees were taken care of. He says that he never wanted to run a big business and that he was not a CEO-type.
“I’m not an entrepreneur. I’m not a CEO. I’m a nerdy computer programmer who likes to have opinions on Twitter.”
Though he says he did his best to ensure his employees had what they needed before the company switched hands, Persson says that everyone at the company still hated him and that he couldn’t even keep a girlfriend because she was afraid of his billionaire lifestyle and wanted someone “normal.”
Persson expressed his views on his “lonely” life and disdain for being rich on Twitter, but tweeters quickly interjecting asking why he doesn’t try to do something to change the world. Persson quickly responded that he would “pull a Musk” but that he knows inevitably he would run into the same types of people that caused him to sell Minecraft all over again. It seems that through his Twitter tirade, the lonely billionaire found solace knowing that other people who gained “quick riches” also have experienced the isolation.
