The Miley Cyrus VMA 2013 performance was blasted this morning by MSNBC anchor Mike Brzezinski as disturbing, disgusting, and cringe-worthy.

The 20-year-old singer twerked on stage last night during a performance of her song “We Can’t Stop,” then turned it up a notch when Robin Thicke went onstage. Performing his hit song “Blurred Lines,” Thicke was joined by a gyrating Miley who wore nothing but a bra and nude underwear. The raunchy performance shocked the audience and brought a quick reaction on social media .

Brzezinski is the co-host of Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough. Just back from vacation, Mika apparenlty was so upset or disoriented that she thought today was September 26 rather than August 26.

The Miley Cyrus MTV VMA 2013 performance “was really disturbing,” Mika said. “That young lady… is obviously deeply troubled, deeply disturbed, clearly has confidence issues and probably an eating disorder. And I don’t think anyone should have put her up on stage. That was disgusting.”

Added Brzezinski: “That [performance] was not attractive. That was not fun. That was not funny. It was really, really bad for anyone who is younger and impressionable. And she’s really messed up.”

Later in the segment, Mika insisted that she felt sorry for Miley Cyrus. “She is a mess; someone needs to take care of her. Someone needs not to put her on stage and have her make a complete fool of herself.”

Although he was joking around about the Miley Cyrus MTV VMA appearance to some extent, Joe Scarborough also expressed concern about the sexualization of impressionable pre-teen girls through performances of that nature.

Miley Cyrus wouldn’t be first publicity-seeking entertainer that controversially attempted to make a daring and provocative splash at an awards show. Do you think that Mika Brzezinski’s assessment of the Miley Cyrus VMA 2013 performance was on or off the mark?
