In what might be the smartest thing Miley Cyrus has ever said, the singer has fired back at the rumors that she’s a lesbian by making a statement that says it all: “I’m not offended.”

Cyrus is unfazed by the rumors, and the singer even takes it as a compliment. Chopping off her long locks wasn’t seen as a good fashion choice by some, and it triggered comments about the 20-year-old’s sexuality, as she was pegged as gay because of her hair choice.

Cyrus opened up about the response she received when she cut her hair short:

“Everyone said I was a lesbian but I’m like, ‘Being a lesbian isn’t a bad thing. So if you think I look like I’m a lesbian, I’m not offended. You can call me much worse.”

Cyrus continued:

“I’ve been called much worse. Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me.”

The singer, who has made headlines for being a twerker post Hannah Montana has been a supporter of the LGBT community for some time now. In 2011 Cyrus upped her support for the gay community by getting an equality sign tattooed on her middle finger. This was chosen in an act to support same-sex marriage.

In addition Cyrus has also said that her favorite fans are her gay fans. Later she went on to praise her own employer Disney for introducing a same-sex couple .

Last month Miley Cyrus made a stop at the Facebook company to help kick off Pride Month with Facebook employees. In addition Cyrus wrote an article for Glamour magazine last year that read:

“Without legalized same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple. How is this different from having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin color?”

Here’s to Miley Cyrus for keeping her cropped cut and not giving in to an awful stereotype.
