Michael Kors has been replaced by fellow designer Zac Posen for season 11 of Project Runway. Kors, who has been a judge for all 10 of the series’ seasons to date, “was not able to commit to all the dates required for filming season 11,” Lifetime said.
The network also said, “Always part of the Project Runway family, Michael will be seen in the future on the show and we are excited to confirm that Michael will be back as a judge for season 11 finale.”
Other changes in season 11 will include the removal of individual challenges. The 16 designers will instead compete as teams.
Posen has been on the show as a guest judge in the past. Susan Sarandon, Bette Midler, and fourth season winner Christian Siriano will appear as guest judges in the new season. Siriano was also the show’s youngest winner at just 21 years old. Other guest judges will include Miranda Lambert, Joan and Melissa Rivers, and John Legend.
Season 11 will premiere January 24 at 9 pm. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the winner will receive $100,000 for L’Oreal Paris to start his or her fashion line. The winner will also receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a 2013 Lexus GS 350, in addition to other prizes.
The model paired with the winner will also appear in the Marie Claire editorial and will receive $25,000 from L’Oreal Paris EverStyle.
Posen said about taking over as a judge, “This was an amazing opportunity. I hope I’m here to give a new perspective to the designers.” He also said Kors was a “generous, warm mentor” when he appeared as a guest judge.
