A Miami team faced HGH tests after one of the best baseball programs in NCAA was linked to a performance-enhancing drug scandal in South Florida.
Though the University of Miami officials didn’t speak about the team’s HGH tests, a source with knowledge of the situation said that the entire roster was tested for performance-enhancing drugs. The news comes days after University of Miami officials announced that 10,000 previous tests on student-athletes yielded results negative for performance-enhancing drugs.
“There’s a very thorough investigation going on within the program to try to find out what they can find out,” Miami coach Jim Morris told The Associated Press , who could not provide many details of that probe because of university policy. “I feel very sure that our current players are not involved in anything. I think we have a very good system intact. Other than that, the outside, I don’t know what’s going on outside.”
News of the Miami team HGH tests comes just weeks after a Miami New Times report unveiled a vast performance-enhancing drug ring operating out of South Florida. One of the best-known trustees of the University of Miami, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez , was implicated in the PED ring, though MLB officials are still investigating his involvement.
Jimmy Goins, a strength and conditioning coach at Miami, was named in the New Times report, though he denied any allegation of wrongdoing.
Unnamed university officials have said that results of the Miami team HGH tests won’t be available for at least a little longer.
