Megyn Kelly has renewed her contract with Fox News.
The terms of the deal aren’t known by Brian Stelter of The New York Times reports that the network has signed contracts with Kelly and Greta Van Susteren.
Kelly, who currently anchors Fox News between the hours of 1 and 3pm, had a big year. She was the moderator for a GOP primary debate and she co-hosted much of the network’s presidential coverage.
Megyn Kelly is considered by many to be a rising star at Fox News but her return to the network was in jeopardy this Summer after she met with several other networks. After the presidential campaign, Roger Ailes acknowledged that several networks would be interested in signing Kelly.
Ailes said : “We’d love her to stay here and be even a bigger star … I’d be stunned if she wanted to go to any other cable channel. That’s a real dive off a high cliff. If somebody wanted her to host the Today show or something, she’d have to look at that, I suppose.”
According to the NY Times report, Fox News has managed to retain their star anchor. Details about the contract aren’t available but Fox may have persuaded Kelly to stay by offering her her own primetime show.
Van Susteren currently occupies the 10 pm time slot, and has for the last 10 years, but her husband John Coale said that Van Susteren “would happily move to an earlier hour, perhaps sometime later this year.”
Coale, who emphasized that he was only speaking for himself, said: “I’d like to spend some quality time with my wife, at least before 11 p.m.”
Van Susteren’s On the Record has been struggling with its audience recently and only managed 1.43 million viewers during the first quarter. On The Record may be struggling at the moment but Van Susteren can still boast that she’s held the “No.1 spot for 11 plus years.”
