Meghan Trainor has risen to the top of the charts with her hit “All About That Bass,” an anthem supporting full-figured gals in a catchy tune. The Boston Herald notes that Trainor, 20, is a “pop phenom from Nantucket” and began her career as a Nashville songwriter. Famous music icon L.A. Reid heard the track and decided to take on the singer.

ABC News adds that Meghan Trainor wrote the song about her own body image and insecurities. She said, “I would never shame skinny people.”

Trainor’s lyrics in “All About That Bass” make fun and positive statements that resonate with listeners about accepting different body images. “I know you think you’re fat / But I’m here to tell you / Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.” As the Boston Herald reports, the song has over 32 million YouTube views and is No. 2 on the Hot 100 list.

Trainor’s EP, Title , is set for a September 9 release. With a combination of doo-wop, hip-hop, and upbeat vocals, the singer is bringing a fresh sound to the Top 40 roster.

“The album reflects me. My love of old rap and (rock) instruments, I’m bringing back guitars, and lyrics that are fun, relatable and sassy,” she explained.

Euronews calls her single an “ode to plus-sized women,” but it is clear the young singer has struck a positive chord with women and men, young and old, making a song about body image a hit. Trainor comments that she receives fan mail from all kinds of fans, even “baby fans, they’re just shaking their bodies trying to dance to it.”

The Inquisitr adds that Meghan’s reputation for unique songs is growing as she has sparked the interest of Harry Styles from One Direction. The two artists are working on a friendly collaboration. While this doesn’t indicate any intent to depart from One Direction for Harry Styles, it does reflect a positive development in the newcomer’s career.

With a busy schedule and ambitious roster of appearances to promote her new album with Epic Records, Trainor is sure to become a familiar name. ABC News also notes that the singer has established herself as a songwriter, writing two singles on the latest Rascal Flatts album. With “DJ Tonight” and “I Like the Sound of That,” Trainor has made musical connections and built a fan base to launch her career as a soloist.

Meghan Trainor admitted that she had never danced before making the video to “All About That Bass.” This sheds some light into the singer’s modest background and highlights her willingness to take risks and grow in the music industry. Euronews does note that there has been some negative press for Trainor with regards to her hit song sounding similar to hooks from Phish and Koyote songs, but it appears that any publicity at this time can only help launch Meghan Trainor further into becoming a household name.
