Mark Zuckerberg Was ‘Hurt’ By ‘The Social Network,’ But What Did He Admit They Got Right?

Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that he was quite hurt by The Social Network , as it made several glaring errors about how the multi-billion dollar company was formed.

The 30-year-old entrepreneur, who invented the social media site alongside several other Harvard students, made the comments during a public question and answer session held at Facebook’s Californian headquarters.

During the wide-ranging discussion , Zuckerberg, who was portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg in the critically acclaimed drama, admitted that the film had “made up a bunch of stuff that I found kind of hurtful.”

But Zuckerberg kind of understands why they needed to embellish some of the details regarding Facebook’s formation. Because he insists that what actually happened wasn’t that glamorous.

“I think the reality is that writing code and then building a product and building a company is not a glamorous enough thing to make a movie about, so you can imagine that a lot of this stuff they had to embellish or make up.”

Zuckberg confessed that they did get “interesting details correct like the design of the office,” however it was the “overarching plot” that they completely fabricated.

He also noted that David Fincher’s film did get his wardrobe right too. But that really wasn’t too hard because, as Facebook’s chief operating officer confirmed, Mark Zuckerberg simply wears a grey T-shirt to work every day. He does have a good reason for it though. Zuckerberg declared that he has many of the same items of clothing because he doesn’t want to make “silly or frivolous” decisions about what to wear. He even has the same routine for his breakfast.

It seems that his main bone of contention with The Social Network was that the film insinuated that the catalyst for Zuckerberg’s cyber antics was that he was dumped by Rooney Mara’s Erica Albright. However, in reality, Zuckerberg had actually been dating Priscilla Chan, who is now his wife, at the time. Zuckerberg went on to concede that he tries not to think about the 2010 film anymore.

“I haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about that movie in a while. I kind of blocked that one out.”

You can check out Mark Zuckerberg’s full question and answer session below. Questions were submitted on Facebook, while several others were taken from the audience in attendance too.
