Marilyn Monroe’s x-rays and plastic surgery notes are going up on the auction block. Really.
In a strange twist, the documents chronicle how the starlet changed her physical appearance to keep that youthful look that made her such an icon.
One of the most recognizable names in the movie industry, Monroe is known for her looks more than anything else, sadly, and it looks as if she was concerned that she was not as perfect as she seemed to her legions of fans.
The set of six x-rays and a set of doctor’s notes indicate the actress indeed had plastic surgery between 1950 and 1962. The documents will be auctioned at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California on November 9-10.
Monroe’s partial medical records are expected to fetch between $15,000 and $30,000 by some estimates.
The notes are written by famed Hollywood plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Gurdin and Marilyn Monroe’s x-rays seem to put to rest the theories on whether she did or didn’t undergo cosmetic enhancements.
The seller, who is unnamed, received the documents as a gift from Gurdin.
Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions says, “Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery. It was always speculation – did she or didn’t she? They thought she was such a natural beauty, they didn’t want to believe.”
But it would appear she actually did.
Gurdin’s notes allude to a cartilage implant to Monroe’s chin in 1950, which according to the document had begun to dissolve.
Nolan adds that in those days plastic surgery wasn’t as commonly used as it is today and people didn’t have it done for cosmetic reasons.
Marilyn was fired from the film Something’s Got To Give by 20th Century Fox after constant absences from the shooting. The x-rays show that she had broken her nose in a night time fall, according to Gurdin. Maybe that was the reason for her not showing up for work.
Marilyn Monroe died under suspicious circumstances on June 7, 1962. Her death was ruled a possible suicide.
