Mariah Carey became very emotional during her Christmas concert performance on Monday night in New York City.
For years, the 45-year-old singer admittedly has enjoyed performing her holiday hits for her fans and critics during the holiday season. However, her recent performance at the Beacon Theatre revealed a side of her that has not been revealed very often on-stage.
The majority of her 80-minute showcase went exactly as planned. Mariah performed such holiday classics as “Silent Night,” “Here Comes Santa Claus” and even “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”

However, there came a point during the concert when the All I Want for Christmas is You singer decided to put her holiday songs on the back burner for the moment and focus on another one of her hit songs, “Hero.”
As she performed the hit song originally recorded for the 1992 Dustin Hoffman film of the same name, tears reportedly started streaming down Mariah’s face “as she struggled for breath.”

In regards to what may have caused her to break down emotionally during her performance, Hollywood Life claims that it may have something to do with her failed marriage to Nick Cannon.
“[Mariah Carey] clearly is having a very hard time celebrating the holidays without her sidekick, Nick Cannon. This is the first Christmas the pair will celebrate without being madly in love.”
In addition to her marriage problems being exposed to the public eye, Mariah Carey also made headlines recently with her highly-criticized live performance at the televised tree lighting ceremony earlier this month.
Daily News reported that producers tried their best to improve the quality of her “awful appearance” by adding quality audio mixing which beautifully blended the cheers of the audience, performing musicians as well as her own backup singers. However, when an unedited track of Mariah Carey’s pitchy voice leaked after her performance, it did not take very long for the footage to go viral.
Even though she was bashed by many fans and critics, quite a few reactions and responses posted on Twitter make it seem as if Mariah Carey redeemed herself with her Beacon Theatre performance.
