Marcus Camby is entering the twilight of his NBA career after 17-years in the league. Given the fact that he might soon be on his way out, Camby is not all too happy with being traded to a team that ended the season with a 34-48 record.

On Monday, the New York Knicks agreed to send Marcus Camby and Steve Novak to the Toronto Raptors for Andrea Bargnani.

According to his statement, Camby was really hoping to win an NBA championship with the Knicks before he retires. Camby writes:

“It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t given a meaningful opportunity to contribute last season in New York. I was really looking forward to the upcoming year as a chance to show the organization what they missed out on last year, and pushing our team towards the Finals. I have nothing but positive things to say about the city of Toronto and its great fans, having been drafted by the Raptors 17 years ago. Given that my goal at this point in my career is to have a shot at a championship, however, I’ll have to evaluate my options going forward. I’ve enjoyed a great career and under the right circumstances I hope to continue making an impact in the league.”

If Camby moves over to the Toronto Raptors instead of retiring, he is set to earn $4.383 million in 2013-14 and $4.177 million in 2014-15.

If he simply doesn’t want to play for the Raptors, Marcus Gamby has the option to  take a buy-out from the Raptors and play for any team that will have him. However, a buy-out would mean Gamby would forfeit some of his guaranteed contract earnings.

Marcus Camby played in just 24 regular season games and took to the court for just three minutes of the playoffs when the Knicks competed against the Boston Celtics.

Given his statement, it looks as if even Gamby doesn’t know if he will continue to play in the league.

Do you think Marcus Camby can have a valuable impact on the Toronto Raptors?
