In lower Michigan, Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Det. Lt. David Kirk told Durand Now last week that a car versus home accident could have had an entirely different outcome had it not been for the heroic actions of the victim.

When a woman crashed her vehicle into a home in rural Durand early Friday morning, the vehicle burst in to flames. When the homeowner exited his home after the accident, he found the driver still in the burning vehicle. As flames from the vehicle spread to his home, he was able to get in to the vehicle and pull the unconscious driver out.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Kirk said the crash was reported at 5:39 a.m., and initial reports indicate the vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old female from Durand, left the roadway, collided with a boulder, and then struck a home.

Justin Lampin said he heard the vehicle collide with his house, and upon investigating, found the vehicle, believed to be an Audi, in flames with the driver still inside. Lampin wrote on Facebook that she had been thrown in the back seat. He was able to pull the driver out of the vehicle to prevent her from being harmed from the vehicle fire. He also pulled the woman’s dog from the vehicle. No one inside the home were harmed as a result of the crash or the subsequent fire.

The driver involved was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan’s capitol city, for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Inquistr reportedly earlier this year on another incredible and unlikely hero: a pit bull bull that saved a deaf boy from a deadly blaze .

Nick Lamb, 13, of Indianapolis, wears cochlear implants but had removed them while he took a nap. The two year old pit bull smelled the fire and licked Lamb on the face until he awoke. Lamb and Ace, the pit bull, escaped without injury. Officials say without Ace, Lamb would have surely died in the blaze that devastated the home.

The family’s cat also survived, but as the article notes, it’s unclear if Ace is responsible for that.

Just this month, a dog reportedly saved six men from electrocution. The Times of India reports a snapped power line had fallen into a puddle at the Gummidipoondi-Chennai Central train station. While trying to alert passengers about the danger, sadly, the dog lost her life.
