Man of Steel is building on the record breaking opening in the US. Zack Snyder’s reboot, which stars British actor Henry Cavill as the superhero, brought in $89 million in 52 territories.

The film has grossed nearly $400 million worldwide in 11 days and had the best opening in history for the month of June.

IMAX theaters are brining in big money for the reboot with $35 million from around 600 movie houses. The first Superman remake in seven years has made $210 million in the US and $188 million overseas.

However, the movie’s domestic earnings fell sharply from its high after opening last weekend.

China premiered Man of Steel last week and it has proven to be a success with $25.5 million from about 5,631 screens. Deadline.com reports that opening day took almost 80 percent of the market share for Warner Bros., the second highest opening day behind only the Harry Potter finale.

“Considering the massive openings last weekend and the hot weather impacting the business in many European markets, Man of Steel sustained a reasonable holdover drop of 59 percent.” Warner Bros said today.

The film is in third place in the US this weekend, behind Disney’s Monsters University with earnings of $82 million and Brad Pitt’s action zombies movie, World War Z which brought in $66 million.

“We’re in great shape moving into the 4th of July holiday playtime with such an iconic character at the helm,” said Warner Bros Domestic Distribution President Dan Fellman. “Hoping we have a similar result to the strong day we had on Father’s Day.”

Warner Bros. is rolling out the comic book reboot to 27 additional international markets this weekend, including the major countries France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, and China.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman , Amy Adams as Lois Lane , Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent , Russell Crowe as Kal-El , and Michael Shannon as General Zod .
