Colorado Police officials arrested 19-year-old Malik Murphy on Tuesday for the murders of his two younger siblings . According to Fox 21 News , at approximately 1:10 a.m., police received a 911 call about a stabbing at a home in the 900 block of Carlisle Street in Colorado Springs.

When responding officers arrived at the scene, they found two children, 7-year-old Sophie Murphy and 5-year-old Noah Murphy, and their father, Jefferson Murphy, with what appeared to be stab wounds.

Paramedics rushed the father and his two children to an area hospital where Sophie and Noah succumbed to their injuries.

The father survived the knife attack.

Jefferson told police officials that he and his wife were asleep in their bedroom when he awoke to the sound of screaming that seemed to have been coming from the basement. When he got out of bed and went to check it out, Malik purportedly attacked him with a knife.

Other relatives in the home immediately called 911 for help, police say.

During the struggle, Jefferson stated that he was able to push his son into the garage and detain him until police arrived at the scene.

The Colorado Springs teen was arrested on charges of two counts of first-degree murder.

According to an affidavit, Malik told detectives that he has always had homicidal thoughts. Several months ago, when the teen felt the need to live alone in the home, he bought a knife and began planning the murders of his family.

Malik went on to say that after the murders, he was going to bury his family in the backyard, Fox 31 Denver reports.

It was reported that earlier this year, in March, Malik was arrested on arson and criminal damage to property charges for setting his parents’ SUV on fire. Officials say that after the teen set the white Ford Explorer on fire between a restaurant and a motel in Effingham, Illinois, he walked across the street and watched it burn.

Court records indicated that the arson charges were later dropped.

Colorado Police officials say that they are not looking for any other suspects in connection with the murders. The investigation is ongoing.
