Madeleine McCann has been missing for six years. In 2007, the 3-year-old girl vanished from the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal. The Metropolitan Police of London have identified a new suspect in her disappearance.
The McCann family was in Portugal for a week-long vacation. On the evening of May 3, Gerry and Kate McCann joined three other couples for dinner. Madeleine and her two siblings were left sleeping in their suite.
The restaurant was located approximately 300 feet from where the children slept. The parents did not want to leave their children with strangers. Instead, they planned to keep an eye on the suite and return to the room at least once every hour.
As reported by People.com , Madeleine McCann was discovered missing less than two hours later. The police launched a massive investigation. However, the child was never found .
The McCanns were criticized for leaving the children alone and their response to the disappearance. Witnesses said the couple rarely checked the children, as they were drinking heavily throughout the evening. Police reported the four couples consumed at least 14 bottles of wine.
Despite numerous rumors, the McCanns were never charged in their daughter’s disappearance.
As reported by Sky News , Scotland Yard has reviewed the entire case . They reportedly uncovered new evidence that is expected to “fill in the pieces.”
The new evidence includes logs of mobile phone calls, made in and around the resort on the night of Madeleine’s disappearance. More than 400 people were interviewed as part of the investigation. Police “identified 41 people of interest.”
One specific suspect has gained intense interest. The man was reportedly at the resort when the 3-year-old vanished. His behavior on the evening in question was unusual.
Detectives are expected to release a sketch and description of the suspect next week. They hope the information will encourage witnesses to identify the man so he can be questioned.
Kate and Gerry McCann had an opportunity to view the sketch. They said they are “greatly encouraged” by the new information.
Madeleine McCann’s parents said they are not giving up, as they have no evidence their daughter was harmed in the abduction .
