Cody Kretsinger, 23, a suspected member of the hacking alliance LulzSec was arrested on Thursday in connection with the hacking of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The young hacker was charged with conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer after he used “SQL injection” to grab data from the studio’s computers and then share it with the outside world.
After stealing data from the Sony computer network Kretsinger posted the names, addresses and passwords for thousands of Sony contest entrants.
If found to be in connection with the group Cody’s confession has already been greatly publicized after LulzSec’s own website posted the following message:
“From a single injection we accessed EVERYTHING,” while adding “Why do you put such faith in a company that allows itself to become open to these simple attacks?”
At this time Kretsinger has been released and is only allowed to use a computer at work; he must also remain in one of three court mandated states.
If found guilty of the attack Cody could face up to 15 years in prison.
As has been the case with other LulzSec attacks I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of a new attack or warning message from the group in retaliation for their members arrest.
