LogMeIn has decided to drop their $29.99 free for its basic iPhone and iPad remote access apps which now go by the name “LogMeIn Free.”

If you’re unfamiliar with the applications they allow users to remotely control their PC or Mac computers directly from their iPad or iPhone devices.

The new app is located in the App Store right next to the paid version known as LogMeIn Ignition. Using the system users can log into an unlimited number of Windows or Mac computers that have installed the LogMeIn Free application. The application then mimics your computer screen as if you were sitting directly in front of your computer.

PCWorld says of the program:

Because of the iPad’s small screen and your computer’s larger display, navigating the remote computer takes some getting used to. I found myself pinching to zoom quite a bit to point the mouse precisely. There’s also a little bit of a lag when entering in text and especially when streaming video. However, that’s a huge benefit of an app like LogMeIn: You can access apps and technologies (like Flash) unavailable on your tablet.

While the free version will allow for most functions the LogMeIn Pro interface ($69.95/year or $12.20/month) has more options including the ability to drag files and folders between the computer and your iPad with the integration for Dropbox and Google Docs among other cloud services.

The Pro version has also recently implemented a new HD video streaming feature that is currently only available from Windows PCs.

The company has also been careful to point out that LogMeIn Ignition buyers aren’t being left out in the cold this holiday season, they are throwing in the LogMeIn Pro extras including file management, cloud services and HD Streaming for free.

Have you been using the LogMeIn application on your iPhone or iPad? What have your impressions of the program been?
