Local search startup Zvents has scored $24 million in new money, with AT&T and Nokia footing much of the bill.

Zvents offers searches catered toward everything local. You can use it to find events, businesses, or activities in your area. It tries to set itself apart from the mainstream search engines by offering local reviews, news about retail specials, and detailed information about upcoming performances, sales, and other city-specific happenings that might get buried in standard results. The data also comes from a combination of Web content and user submissions.

Zvents’ technology is used in AT&T’s YellowPages.com iPhone app, Ypmobile . The company also has deals with MSN CityGuides and some New York Times Web properties.

Zvents is based in San Mateo, California, and has been around since 2005.
