Linkin Park Calls Another Band ‘Disney’ Music? CHVRCHES Responds

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda can’t seem to keep his mouth shut. The Inquisitr recently reported that one of Linkin Park’s vocalists had allegedly called the cops on another band, Sublime. He later denied the rumors. He was also publicized criticizing “click bait” journalism. It seems Linkin Park has a lot of opinions, and Mike Shinoda’s still not done. He recently called fellow band CHVRCHES “Disney commercial music.”

In an interview with Noisey about Linkin Park’s new album The Hunting Party , Mike Shinoda said the following:

“There’s so much music out there; there’s so much stuff that sounds like Haim or CHVRCHES or Vampire Weekend that I’m full. The thing I’m hungry for is not that. I turn on the rock station in L.A. and it sounds like Disney commercial music. And I’m confused by that.”

Linkin Park was heavily criticized for this comment, as is often the case when one band bashes another. A similar instance occurred when Alice Cooper called Vampire Weekend wimpy. Except this time, CHVRCHES actually responded to Linkin Park. According to The Huffington Post , in an interview with Swiss television channel Joiz, the synth band called Linkin Park’s remark a “pointless dig.” Fellow vocalist Lauren Mayberry referred to the Linkin Park vocalist’s comment as “bulls***.”

“It’s not an opinion I would worry about hugely,” said the CHVRCHES singer. “It’s not my kind of music. [Linkin Park has] been on the radio for how long, and I just don’t listen to that radio station. That’s a smarter move then saying something for a tagline.”

You can watch the interview with CHVRCHES, featuring the mention of Linkin Park, in the video below:

To be fair, CHVRCHES didn’t respond to Linkin Park’s Disney accusation right away. According to Radio.com , a journalist actually had to pry to get them to talk about Shinoda’s remark. But shortly after they finally gave their opinion, the Linkin Park musician shot right back with a new rebuttal. He posted a blog about the incident on his website.

“As [Linkin Park] released THE HUNTING PARTY, I spoke on various occasions about the inspiration of the album,” Shinoda wrote “Part of the answer is that the album is a response to a surplus of danceable, safe, indie-pop music that’s taken over ‘rock.’ A year ago, we knew the indie-pop thing was a style that [Linkin Park] is capable of making. But we were not interested in pursuing it. Why? Because there is a LOT of it out there. It seemed far more exciting for us to go against the grain.”

Linkin Park’s The Hunting Party is available now and is getting some mixed reviews . What do you think of the quarrel between Linkin Park and CHVRCHES? Who do you side with?
