Life of Pi screenwriter David Magee has been tapped to write the fourth film in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Silver Chair .
“I have always loved ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday,” Magee said in a statement . “All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit.”
Magee won the Satellite Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Life of Pi , which is based on Yann Martel’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name. He was also nominated for an Oscar in the same category, but the award went to Chris Terrio for Argo . Ang Lee took home the award for Best Director for the film, beating Steven Spielberg ( Lincoln ) for a second time. Lee previously won the award for Brokeback Mountain , which was released the same year as Spielberg’s Munich .
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely ( Captain America: The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier ) wrote the first three films in the Chronicles of Narnia series. They were joined by Ann Peacock ( Nights in Rodanthe ) for the first film, Andrew Adamson ( Mister Pip ) for the first and second, and Michael Petroni ( Queen of the Damned ) for the third.
The first three films in the series have grossed nearly $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. The first film, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe grossed $745 million on a $180 million budget. The second film, Prince Caspian grossed $419 million on a $225 million budget.
