Lamar Odom is about to be discharged from the hospital, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be seeing media snapshots of him anytime soon — if ever. Although Lamar has miraculously survived what could have been a fatal drug overdose, and doctors believe he’ll make a substantial recovery over the next two years, those in his inner circle, namely the Kardashians, still aren’t convinced he should ever be seen in public again.
But, since Odom is still married to Khloe Kardashians, an insider has dropped a bombshell about why the celebrity family feels he should be kept out of the public eye . Apparently, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars would rather fans remember him the way he was as opposed to seeing him the way he is now.
On Dec. 16, an insider close to Lamar Odom told Hollywood Life the reason for the Kardashians’ concerns. Surprisingly, the reason has nothing to do with the reality stars’ careers, publicity stance, or television ratings.
The insiders claims are reportedly based off the observations of Lamar’s close family and friends since they have been the only people to speak with the former NBA team and the medical staff assisting him during this difficult time. In a nutshell, the family is hoping he decides to avoid the media much like Rob Kardashian.
“Lamar is still in really rough shape and may never be seen in public ever again,” an insider said. “The Kardashian family may make him take a leave of absence from public life forever almost like Rob Kardashian, who hasn’t been seen for a long time in the public eye.”
Since the Kardashians are well-acquainted with the media, the last thing they reportedly want is a weak depiction of Lamar Odom, which could ignite the fire for more daunting rumors.
“Khloe and the family want people to remember him for who he was rather than who he is now,” the insider said. The Kardashians are reportedly hoping for a “Tracy Morgan type comeback and recovery, but that is still some time away if at all a possibility.”

However, it doesn’t look like Lamar Odom will be bouncing back as swiftly as Tracy Morgan did following his highly-publicized automobile accident with a Walmart tractor-trailer in June 7, 2014. The comedian-actor suffered a series of injuries including a broken leg and femur, broken nose, and several broken ribs. However, that’s not all.
In Oct. of 2014, it was reported that like Lamar Odom, Tracy was undergoing examinations for traumatic brain injury, daily speech, cognitive, vocational and physical therapies. Six days before the one-year anniversary of the accident, Tracy Morgan made his first public appearance. However, it doesn’t seem like that will be the case for Lamar Odom.
After being found unconscious inside a Las Vegas brothel, Lamar Odom reportedly suffered kidney failure, several strokes, and substantial brain damage that may or may not result in permanent cognitive damage. When Khloe Kardashian appeared on the TODAY show on Dec. 10, she offered a recovery timeline, revealing it may take a minimum of two years for a full recovery. She also revealed the pitfalls he suffers, despite the progress he’s made, according to the Huffington Post . An insider has also spoken with People magazine about his current mental state .
“The amazing thing about the brain is that it’s sometimes able to repair itself beyond what one could have hoped for,” the source says. “It’s very possible that Lamar will do much better in the future. Right now, however, he still suffers many challenges.”
