Lady Gaga’s tribute to The Sound of Music during the Oscars telecast didn’t come easily. The eccentric singer reportedly spent months training with a vocal coach to reach the impossible range required to sing the classic songs.
Aside from the Oscar winners, Gaga’s epic rendition of the songs veteran actress Julie Andrews made famous in the 1965 film, was the talk of the night. Viewers at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and those at home, were left in awe of the moving performance, which saw Lady Gaga mimicking Andrews’ very difficult vocal range almost to perfection.
Lady Gaga performed beloved songs from the immortal movie which also starred Christopher Plummer, including “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “Climb Every Mountain,” and “Do Re Mi.” To the shock and surprise of those who don’t know the “Applause” singer, she nailed it, but it didn’t come that easy.
According to ET Online , Oscars executive producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan revealed that Lady Gaga practiced every day for six months with a vocal coach, for the 50th anniversary tribute to The Sound of Music . Both men gushed about the brilliant performance.
“She worked half a year with a vocal coach every day for half a year to do that,” Zadan said, while Meron commented, “She’s the real deal. She can do anything.”
Let’s face it, whatever you think about Lady Gaga and her unusual costumes, she is an extremely talented vocalist, which she has proven in all her live performances. But The Sound of Music tribute at the Oscars is something we haven’t seen from the 28-year-old, recently engaged singer.
“She said that if she pulls it off, it’s going to change the focus of her career and she pulled it off,” Meron added, echoing some rumors that this will indeed change what we can expect to see from Lady Gaga in the future.
Aside from the amazing vocals, when Lady Gaga concluded her tribute, The Sound of Music icon, Julie Andrew herself came on stage and embraced the singer, who was seen in tears backstage. Later on the musician spoke to ET about the epic moment.
“I’m just very excited to be here and I really put my heart into this performance. It’s a tribute performance for a remarkable film that changed the history of cinema forever, and I’m just very honored to be doing it.”
It remains to be seen what Lady Gaga does next, but her fans (and many detractors) certainly think her work with the vocal coach paid off on Sunday at the Oscars.
