Lady Gaga Asked Ryan Murphy For a Role On ‘American Horror Story’: ‘Hold For Gaga’

It’s probably not everyday a producer gets a call from Lady Gaga , even a rather famous producer like Ryan Murphy. But that’s exactly what happened: Ryan Murphy was working on the set when he got a call on his cell phone and didn’t recognize the number. He answered it and heard a voice say “Hold for Gaga,” and then Gaga’s song Bad Romance played until she got on the phone. It was a short, but sweet, conversation that basically consisted of Gaga saying “I want to be on American Horror Story ” and Ryan Murphy saying “OK.” The Inquisitr has covered several articles discussing her role. But how that role came to be is extremely simple — she wanted it. She got it. After all, she’s Lady Gaga.

As for Gaga, she had strayed somewhat from her freakish beginning when she wore meat dresses to events — singing more ballads, staying lower key. But that’s simply not Lady Gaga’s nature, and American Horror Story helped her realize she had to get back to her freaky roots. She is a huge fan of the show, so it seemed logical to her that perhaps they could make a part for her. It certainly has been good for ratings, and it’s helped Gaga reclaim her persona, according to Entertainment Weekly .

“I’ve just been weeping while I’m here because I have returned to something I’ve believed in so much, which is the art of darkness. It’s not something that everyone understands, but, for the people that do — Horror Story fans, my fans — there is a true connection between us, and it’s a language within itself.”

That “art of darkness” was definitely prevalent in the movie Psycho, which also involves a blood-thirsty hotel , according to Billboard Weekly . In fact, lyrics from Bad Romance suggest that Gaga may be an Alfred Hitchcock fan — not a far cry from what American Horror Story has to offer today. She makes several cryptic references to Hitchcock’s movies in her lyrics.

“I want your psycho, your vertigo stick, Want you in my in my rear window, Baby you’re sick.”

Even though it’s the first season without Jessica Lange, who may come back at some point in the future, it promises to be dark, mysterious, and sexy with the addition of Lady Gaga. Hotel premieres October 7 on FX, according to Murphy.

“There’s a chance to do something Jessica would not have done. So it’s a different tone. But it’s still the show — make no mistake. I think it has what people want.”
