Kym Johnson was one smokin’ bride. The Dancing With the Stars pro dancer had a minor mishap on her wedding day. As Johnson walked down the aisle to greet her future husband, Robert Herjavec, at the altar, her dress caught on fire . According to People , Kym and Robert were in the middle of exchanging their vows when they smelled the smoke.
“We smelled something and we thought, is someone having a barbecue?” the Shark Tank millionaire told People . “Then we realized that Kym’s dress was on fire!”

The train of Kym Johnson’s gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown had apparently passed over a candle on her way to the altar and it caught fire.
“I almost went up in flames!” Johnson said. “Thank God my man of honor stomped it out with his foot. But underneath my dress is completely singed.”
The rest of the wedding went off without a hitch, but it’ a shame that the bottom of Kym Johnson’s gown is now ruined. Of course, even a burnt wedding dress didn’t stop Robert from gushing over his bride.
“She looked so beautiful,” Herjavec told People . “I don’t know how I got through the vows!”

Kym Johnson put a lot of thought into the gown that she picked out for the wedding to her former Dancing With the Stars partner. Earlier this year, Kym told Us Weekly that she didn’t want a typical beaded or lace dress because she wears those types of dresses all the time on the ABC celebrity ballroom competition.
“A lot of [the dresses] I tried on I felt like I was putting a Dancing With the Stars dress on I’d worn before,” Johnson told Us . “I’m used to wearing slinky sort of lace things, a lot of beading on Dancing With the Stars , so I wanted to stay clear of that.”

Johnson went on to say that she wanted a “very simple” gown, and she planned to help in the design process for her one-of-a-kind frock.
“It’s been a really fun process [to help design the dress],” Johnson said. “A lot of designers will look at me like, ‘What?’ But I’m used to doing it for the show!”
Kym’s strapless Monique Lhuillier gown was indeed simple, with no sparkles or embellishments and just a clean, classic line with a tiered skirt. Herjavec wore a black and white Tom Ford tuxedo jacket for the ceremony, which was held at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.

While the wedding dress fire definitely set Kym and Robert’s wedding apart from a typical Hollywood ceremony, the couple’s big day also coincided with another unusual event, and that was Kym and Robert’s acting debut in the Sharknado franchise. That’s right, Kym and Robert’s big day was on the same day that they both appeared in SyFy’s TV movie sequel, Sharknado 4 : The 4 th Awakens. It was the first time Kym or Robert made a cameo in the campy franchise, so it sounds like July 31 was definitely an extra special day for these DWTS darlings.
Kym Johnson met her future husband when they were partnered together for season 20 of Dancing With the Stars . The couple announced their engagement this past March, and after their star-studded wedding with celeb pals, including DWTS pro dancers, Donny Osmond, Lance Bass, and others, they begin their new life together. And for Kym Johnson, the wedding introduces a new name because, in a rare celebrity move, Kym has taken Robert’s last name of Herjavec.
