Kris Jenner is still coming to terms with Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, so much so that she still struggles to call her by her new name.
This was all revealed when the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star sat down with Billy Bush on Access Hollywood and set the record straight about her relationship with Cait.
“Can you call Caitlyn, Caitlyn?” Billy Bush asked Kris.
“No,” she admitted.
Although using the name Caitlyn is hard for Kris, she doesn’t use the name Bruce.
“I say ‘Jenner,’” Kris explained.
Many transgender people find it offensive when their pre-transition names are used in reference to them.
Kris and Caitlyn were married in 1991 and remained together for 22 years until they separated in 2013. Now, since Caitlyn’s transition, Kris admits that she has to get to know her again because Caitlyn isn’t the same person that Bruce was.
“I just thought she would be a little bit different,” Kris said. “Bruce had a distinct personality and, you know, had definite characteristics. And Caitlyn has some different ones, I feel.”
Billy Bush then asked Kris if she could ever see herself getting closer to Caitlyn and maybe “curl up on the couch” with her sometime in the near future.
“I don’t know about curl up on the couch, but she came over for a drink last night,” Kris said of her ex-spouse. “And that was nice.”
The admission that there’s some tension between Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner confirms what insider sources have been claiming for a while.
An insider source told People Magazine that the Kardashians are still struggling to adapt to Caitlyn Jenner’s transition.
“It’s still really fresh for Kris,” said the source who is reportedly close to the Keeping Up with the Kardashians matriarch. “She does seem to really separate Caitlyn from her life now and has moved on as best she can.”
One source of tension was the interview Caitlyn gave to Vanity Fair . The Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair cover and interview served as her coming out to the world, and she did not hold back.
In the interview, Caitlyn says that she felt she was mistreated by Kris and that she was “controlling” and “wasn’t very nice.” Here’s more of what was said in the Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair interview.
“The first 15 years I felt [Kris] needed me more because I was the breadwinner. Then, really around [the time of KUWTK ], when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint… I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. A lot of times she wasn’t very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money, all that kind of stuff.”
