A kindergarten graduation ended with a brawl after two teenage girls got into a fight over a spilled drink.

According to the NY Post , the kindergarten graduation brawl involved 8 people, dozens of punches, a lead pipe and a hammer. Eight people were arrested after the incident at Michael R. White Elementary School in Cleveland.

Cleveland police Cmdr. Wayne Drummond said that the brawl involved teenagers and adults.

Drummond said: “You had adults fighting adults, juvies fighting juvies, and so forth. You just had a melee here. It was a very chaotic scene. It’s a shame something like this would happen at promotional ceremony for young kids … When people act like this they are going to jail.”

Drummond said that only eight people arrested but that several more people were involved in the fight. No one was seriously injured in the brawl.

City Councilman Jeff Johnson praised the officers for the quick response but added that he was embarrassed by how the parents acted at the ceremony,

Johnson said : “It is embarrassing that parents during a kindergarten promotion cannot control themselves, and what we tried to do was respond significantly … Any parent involved in the fight should be banned from the building. We’re not going to have people coming into our schools, being disrespectful, fighting.”

The kindergarten graduation in Cleveland may have ended with a brawl but there are a few good academic stories in the news today. A five-year-old girl impressed her teachers by reading 875 books this year and a 13-year-old impressed the judges by winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee .
