On Saturday, June 27, 2015, The Scholar Who Walks The Night made its premier on MBC. It is a period K-drama set in an alternate timeline about Jo Yang Sun, a woman who dresses as a man so she can sell books to feed her family who have fallen from grace into poverty. One night, Yang Sun meets Kim Sung Yeol, a traveling scholar by night, and falls in love with him. Little does she know that Sung Yeol is actually a vampire. Ergo, the twist is sure to make for an interesting romance, a topic often touched in young adult literature.

However, one of the more unique roles in The Scholar Who Walks the Night is done by Kim So Eun. In the period K-drama. So, Eun will play the love interest Kim Sung Yeol, a role played by her “oppa” Lee Joon Ki.

According to HanCinema , Kim So Eun will be pulling double-duty in The Scholar Who Walks The Night as both Lee Myung Hee and Choi Hye Ryung. Both roles have love lines to Kim Sung Yeol, but not in the sense of a love triangle. Myung Hee was Sung Yeol’s first love who died a long time ago. Hye Ryung is Myung Hee’s doppelganger. Summarized, Kim Sung Yeol is haunted by the love of his past during his present both physically and mentally.

For the actors, this is a very unique situation given the fact they worked together in a previous movie titled Fly, Daddy, Fly , as reported by KDramaStars . In it, Kim So Eun played Jang Da Mi, the daughter of the main character, Jang Ga Pil. Lee Joon Ki played Go Seung Suk, the man Ga Pil would go to for fighting advice. During that time, Lee Joon Ki was 24 while Kim So Eun was 16.

“I called him Uncle Jun Ki. But when I recently met him during the dinner meeting for Scholar Who Walks The Night , I naturally called him oppa.”

The Scholar Who Walks The Night airs on Wednesday and Thursday at 10 p.m. KST on MBC. For those who don’t have access to the network, it is available to watch for free (with ads) on DramaFever .
