The Golden Gophers announced that Kevin Dorsey, Dupree McBrayer, and Nate Mason were suspended following Sunday’s night game in Illinois for violation of team rules.
In a brief statement , Gophers head coach Richard Pitino explained, “With the privilege of being a member of the University of Minnesota basketball program there are expectations and standards to which we hold our student-athletes accountable, and they have failed to do so.”
On Friday night (February 26), Kevin Dorsey allegedly posted two explicit videos on his Twitter account. The videos were removed within 30 minutes, and Dorsey deleted his account after the incident. However, it was too little, too late, since fans already posted the NSFW videos on the message board GopherHole.com , each of which show a man engaged in a threesome. It’s not clear whether there was a second man or a second woman in the videos, as only Dorsey’s face was clearly shown.
“Apparently Dorsey posted a couple of videos to his twitter account, then deleted his entire account shortly after. I was too late to view the content of the videos, but someone did and forwarded them to Doogie.”
Doogie is the nickname for Minneapolis reporter Darren Wolfson, who vaguely tweeted his thoughts on the sex tapes.

In addition, another fan message board called BigLead.com goes into great detail about the sex tapes. It even quotes a poster who gives a graphic account of the videos in the alleged tweets.
Head coach Richard Pitino released an updated statement after the team’s 84-71 loss at Illinois.
“Obviously, culture and doing what’s right is extremely important to myself, our staff and our players. I wake up every day, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity that I have to coach in an awesome basketball conference and to coach in a place where I consider my dream job. We’re going to do things the right way. Tonight wasn’t about wins and losses, it was about making sure our guys understand that this thing is bigger than just basketball. And we’re going to do what we believe is right. Unfortunately you may lose the battle, but you’re going to win the war. Today was unfortunately not as much about wins and losses but about the culture of our program. That’s something we work at every single day. And it’s extremely important to what we’re all about.”
Earlier this month, it was reported that Kevin Dorsey was finally making waves in basketball. He’s become the most-hyped freshman basketball player to hail from the University of Minnesota. Dorsey first made waves during a game on Saturday, January 30 in a 74-68 loss to Indiana. He also scored season-high 21 points for the Gophers. He was obviously delighted over their big win.
“It felt great. The crowd was into it. It was loud. We took the lead. There’s no better place to play than in the Big Ten, I feel. If we keep doing the little things that coach is telling us to, keep the bond we have, then we’ll start pulling (out) these games.”
Hopefully, this recent sex scandal won’t blow Kevin Dorsey’s chances of playing with the Gophers. There is no doubt that the University of Minnesota and Gophers message boards won’t stop talking it anytime soon. Many fans have remarked that this scandal is not looking good for Dorsey’s flourishing career.
It’s still not clear how Dupree McBrayer and Nate Mason were involved with the sex tapes. It’s possible that they were also involved with the filming and/or distributing of the videos. According to Pitino, those players also violated the team rules, but he never elaborated how.
