If you’ve been in a hole the last few days and completely missed the Kanye West drama, here’s the scoop. On Sunday night, MTV hosted the annual Video Music Awards, and Kanye West was receiving the Vanguard award. In typical Kanye fashion, his acceptance speech was 12 minutes long and at the end, he said he was running for president in 2020 and dropped the mic. Yes, you heard right, Kanye West is running for president in 2020.

The look on both Taylor Swift’s and Kim Kardashian’s faces probably represented almost everyone in the world after Kanye made that announcement.

There has been a lot of talk since he made this announcement, like: is he really going to run for president or was he just joking in some weird way? Fans and celebrities have come out in support for Kanye West, some against him, but many are still confused if Kanye is telling the truth or just got caught up in the moment and said the first thing that came to his mouth.

After a lot of different people weighing in on Kanye 2020, the White House decided that they were going to speak on this. According to USA Today , the White House normally does not comment on candidacies or possible candidacies, but this time, Press Secretary Josh Earnest just had to comment on Kanye West.

“Let me just say I look forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.”

President Obama has made it known that he has mutual respect for Kanye, maybe even a friendship. On an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, he said as follows.

“I met Kanye twice. The first time was when I was a senator and he was with his mom and he had just gotten big. And then about six months ago he came to an event. I love his music, I don’t think I’ve got his home number.”

It will be interesting to see Kanye West as president, and this isn’t the first time West has dipped his toes into the political world. Kanye West publicly spoke out against former President George W. Bush and the government’s response during Hurricane Katrina. No one can ever forget the moment he was on live television and said “George Bush hates black people.” Kanye has also been known to compare his wife, Kim Kardashian, to first lady Michelle Obama.
