Katy Perry and John Mayer have split just weeks after rumors circulated that the couple was engaged, sources say.
Perry reportedly broke up with Mayer a few days ago, just before leaving for a trip to London and Milan.
The source who told E! News that the couple split didn’t offer any reason behind the sudden end to the relationship. Just a few weeks ago, Katy Perry was seen on a Valentine’s Day date sporting what many believed to be an engagement ring.
Katy also wore the same ring on the red carpet at the Elle Style Awards in London on Feb. 18. It was later clarified that the ring was just a piece of jewelry that Perry liked, but sources said an engagement still seemed imminent.
A source who saw the couple on a date in West Hollywood earlier this month said everything seemed great between the two.
“They are really happy. They had the most amazing date night. They had a private booth at Bootsy Bellows and were very happy just to be together,” the source said. “They were taking pics of one another and are head over heels. After a while, they had some friends join them and they spent the rest of the night dancing. They left as the club was closing.”
If the rumors are true, this would not be the first time that Katy Perry and John Mayer have split. They have had an on-again off-again relationship dating back several years, though their recent return to the relationship seemed more serious than before.
“I think that I needed to grow up,” she told GQ in February 2014 of their breakups.
But in recent interviews, Katy indicated that she may be looking for something more.
“I’m just having a wonderful experience with a wonderful guy. There’s no rush,” she told GQ, shying away from calling them a couple.
A rep for the couple did not respond to questions over whether Katy Perry and John Mayer have truly split.
