Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have been divorced for two years now, and both appear to be doing well on their separate paths. Though Cruise has been rumored to be secretly dating Sandra Bullock , Holmes has moved on her own way.
The Batman Begins star is putting the past behind her, as revealed in an interview.
Holmes was on everybody’s mind back in 2006, when she agreed to marry the Top Gun star, allegedly promised millions of dollars a year as long as she stayed. Cruise seemed to be the happiest about it, having made a scene on Oprah’s show jumping on her couch. Some might have called it a rebound after his split with Nicole Kidman, but Cruise and Holmes stayed together for six years, even earning the couple moniker TomKat.
Katie Holmes even publicly appeared less and less happy about the marriage as time progressed, though she did manage to gain custody of their daughter Suri in the process of their split. She never really opened up about the divorce until now in an interview with People Magazine .
“I don’t want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am. I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now. I don’t have any fear now, I don’t have a lot of rules for myself, and I don’t take myself that seriously.”
Holmes is now focused on raising her daughter and giving her a happy life, and leaving the Tom Cruise years behind her. As an actress she may need a few more major films before the rest of us forget who made her famous and take her as her own person again.
For now, Katie Holmes’ divorce is old news and she says her daughter is everything to her.
“I’m learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom. My patience has grown, but between 4 and 6 p.m…. I mean, wow. Between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way.”
It is unknown how long it will take before the public stops thinking of Holmes as Cruise’s ex, but the Dawson’s Creek actress is set on making her own way. In 2014, she has already had her share of roles in Days and Nights , Miss Meadows , The Giver , and the upcoming Mania Days . In 2015, she will continue moving on with Woman in Gold .
