As the Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise divorce heats up we are sure to hear more about the Church of Scientology and its disturbing practices, now according to sources close to Holmes, one of her biggest fears was the Tom Cruise would make daughter Suri go through a practice known as “sec checking.”
Considered a Scientology “right of passage” of sorts the ritual involves children holding electrode handles to a device known as an e-meter (pictured above). Children are asked a set of personal questions and a church official uses the readings in the machine to find specific areas of “spiritual distress.”
TMZ managed to get its hands on a set of the questions which include:
— What has somebody told you not to tell? — Have you ever decided you did not like some member of your family? — Have you ever bullied a smaller child? — Have you ever lied to a teacher? — Have you ever done something you were very much ashamed of? — Have you ever refused to obey an order from someone you should obey? — Have you ever gotten yourself dirty on purpose?
In a very “business-like” approach that information is recorded by an “auditor” who presents the information to leaders of the church.
The practice has been criticized not just by those people outside of the religion but also by ex-Scientologists who call sec checking a mild form of psychological terrorism meant solely for the purpose of getting children to report on their parents.
While other Church of Scientology methodologies have been linked to the TomKat divorce sources are adamant that it was practices like this and the Sea Org movement that led to Katie Holmes divorcing Tom Cruise.
