Kate Middleton And Prince William’s Sailing Race: See Who Won [Photos]

Kate Middleton and Prince William are making the most out of their tour to New Zealand this week, and on Friday they flew from Wellington to the Royal New Zealand Air Force base of Whenuapai, near Auckland.

The royals left their eight-month-old son, Prince George — who has been the main attraction of the royal tour thus far — at their home base in the island nation, the city’s Government House, with his Spanish-born nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo.

After arriving in Whenuapai, Kate and William were casually chatting with some in the crowd that came out to welcome them for the event, and the Duke confessed that he had a hard time adjusting to fatherhood, but things have gotten easier in the past few months.

Kate Middleton also confided to another mom that she had to learn to “get by” while her husband was still working as a search and rescue pilot in Wales, right after the birth of their son in July. She stayed with her parents in Bucklebury for about a month.

Looking very casual in navy blue skinny pants, double breasted navy jacket with golden buttons, white and navy stripped top, and wedges, Kate was seen having a good time enjoying her husband’s company even though she beat him fair and square, not once, but twice.

William and Kate boarded two separate Emirates Team New Zealand yachts and, armed with life vests and more comfortable shoes for the Duchess, they sailed off and the photos are just adorable:

Before the race, Prince William joked that they would have some “friendly competition” while in the water and Kate said, “Take care!” to which he replied, “Yeah, see you later.”

William was reportedly nervous, but very much wanted to win and even though the Duchess pushed the yacht into a bad position, her skipper said she did well.

A clearly pleased Kate Middleton was cheered on by onlookers (sorry, William, you don’t stand a chance) and later on her husband said, “At least she’ll be happy.”

When someone suggested that Kate was looking too pleased with her victory, Prince William — as any good husband would — said, “I bet she is. Selfless husband. I wanted a quiet night.”
