Joran van der Sloot plead guilty to all charges related to the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores today as his trial resumed in Lima, Peru.
Van der Sloot plead guilty to the “qualified murder” and simple robbery of Stephany Flores and told the three judge panel that he was “really sorry for what happened.”
Van der Sloot’s trial was postponed last week after Joran asked the three judge panel for more time to decide how to plea. The trial resumed this morning and van der Sloot plead guilty to all charges.
CNN reports that van der Sloot will be sentenced on Friday.
Van der Sloot was also the main suspect in the unsolved disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Natalee’s father, Dave, said:
“I was just happy to see that the Flores family finally got justice. I just hope that on Friday that he gets the proper sentence that he deserves.”
Van der Sloot’s attorney Jose Luis Jimenez also brought up the Holloway case, saying that van der Sloot has been unfairly treated for the last five year’s because of his alleged involvement in Holloway’s disappearance. Jiminez said:
“He was pointed at and persecuted. The world had been against him for five years before this case, for a murder he said he never committed and for which there is no evidence whatsoever.”
Van der Sloot could be sentenced to 30-years in prison for the murder of Stephany Flores. Edwar Alvarez, the attorney for the Flores family, said:
“This individual is a psychopath and a psychopath cannot be freed because if that happens he becomes a danger to society.”
