When news broke Monday that Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt split, fans across social media were shocked. After all, the couple had been together for more than 18 years. Why Hamm and Westfeldt broke up wasn’t clear.
Soon after the news of the impending separation broke, media sources started to provide answers to the often-asked “Why?” question.
According to a source speaking to ET , for example, Westfeldt simply wanted Hamm to grow up.
“She was tired of being his mother. Jon and Jennifer really fought hard to make their relationship work, Jennifer more so than Jon. They were together for many years, but in the end, it was too much work. It’s no secret that Jon likes to go out and leads a very party-heavy lifestyle. And Jennifer was just tired of that. She wanted him to grow up … and he never wanted to. “
In March, Jon Hamm was admitted to a rehab facility for alcohol abuse, and at the time, media reports indicated that the Jon Hamm-Jennifer Westfeldt relationship could be on the rocks. At the time, Hamm’s rep released a statement discrediting rumors that Westfeldt had spent time with another man while Jon was in rehab.
“The only gentleman Jennifer visited regularly in Connecticut was Jon, while he was in rehab. They continue to ask for the public’s understanding and sensitivity during this challenging time.”
The rumors at the time indicated that Jennifer and Jon had actually split before the Mad Men actor checked into rehab. According to Us Weekly , Hamm and Westfeldt were last seen together in public in January at a Broadway show, where they took photos with the cast of On the Town .
Regardless of when the Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt split happened, it’s become obvious that the relationship just wasn’t working. A source told the following to Us Weekly.
“They’ve been fighting for a while, but now they’re done. They decided to finally split. It’s sad.”
RadarOnline also had information about the Jon Hamm-Jennifer Westfeldt split , indicating that commitment problems had something to do with it. The media outlet wrote the following.
“The real reason that he and Jennifer split was because she wanted him to commit and he was just not ready. Jennifer told Jon that she never imagined that after almost two decades together, he would still have not asked her to marry him.”
