Actor Johnny Depp has returned home from Australia, after suffering an unknown injury to his hand over the weekend, while on location for the the latest installment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.
The 51-year-old actor has been filming along Australia’s Gold Coast, according to the Daily Mail , over the course of the last month. Depp reportedly wasn’t on set or filming at the time he injured his right hand, yet the damage was severe enough that he will require surgery to repair it. Though Johnny Depp opted to return to the United States on Wednesday for medical attention, where he will remain for the next two weeks, a Disney spokesman has noted that the injury will only affect the production in a minimal way.

The fifth installment in the franchise, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales began filming last month, according to USA Today , and is expected to continue production through this summer. Depp will reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow, alongside Javier Bardem as primary antagonist Captain Salazar. Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Golshifteh Farahani have also been cast in the film, yet Depp is hardly the only actor returning to the franchise. Geoffrey Rush will reprise his role as Captain Barbossa, while Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham will return as Joshamee Gibbs and Scrum.

While on location in Australia, Depp has also been spotted pursuing his passion for rock music. Last month, Depp was seen at a Foo Fighters concert as the group swung through the continent on tour. Prior to that, Depp joined Marilyn Manson on stage in Brisbane, as the Inquisitr previously reported. Depp had previously played on stage with Manson at a show in West Hollywood. Recently, the actor also signed on to Alice Cooper’s supergroup, the Hollywood Vampires. The original incarnation, which included John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr, and Keith Moon, formed in the 1970s.
The newest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie will see Depp’s character facing down a group of ghost pirates, led by Salazar, as they attempt to kill every pirate on the high seas. As Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp will be tasked with seeking out the Trident of Poseidon, an artifact that grants total control over the seas.
Though scant details were available regarding the nature of Johnny Depp’s hand injury, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is still slated for a July 7, 2017 release.
