Jodie Foster is making headlines for her Golden Globes appearance where she got on stage and gave a coming out speech. Of sorts.

Foster, the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement, talked candidly about her private life, thanking her former partner and co-parent, Cydney Bernard.

During the speech Jodie Foster told the audience that she was finally ready to make a confession, NBC News noted. She said:

“I had a sudden urge to say something that I have never really been able to air in public, a declaration that I’m a little nervous about … but I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud. So, I’m going to need your support on this. I am … single. Yes, I am, I am single.”

But after the joke, the notoriously private Foster did delve into her personal life, saying “I already did my coming out in the stone age.”

Foster added:

“Now, apparently, I’m told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference … You guys might be surprised, but I’m not Honey Boo Boo Child.

“If you had been a public figure from the time that you were a toddler … then maybe you too might value privacy above all else. Privacy.”

The speech, which brought many audience members to tears, saw Jodie Foster imply that she may be retiring from acting, ABC News noted.

“It’s just that from now on, I may be holding a different talking stick,” Foster said, bringing many in the audience to tears.

But after the show, Foster said she wasn’t retiring from acting.

“Oh that’s so funny,” Jodie Foster said. “You couldn’t drag me away. And I’d like to be directing tomorrow.”
