While fans were recently thrilled at the prospects of a potential Hunger Games prequel, it now seems as though Jennifer Lawrence will not be involved in any more movies related to the hit franchise. According to the Guardian , Lawrence recently shared her thoughts about reprising her role as Katniss Everdeen while promoting her upcoming movie, Joy .

“I wouldn’t be involved… I think it’s too soon. They’ve got to let the body get cold, in my opinion.”

Lawrence’s comments follow a statement from the vice chairman of entertainment at Lionsgate, Michael Burns, who expressed interest in developing a prequel to the hit franchise that would be based in the various districts of Panem. Burns believes that there is enough material to draw from in the novels by Suzanne Collins to create a number of new films. In fact, Burns admitted that the franchise could “live on and on and on” in a similar manner as the Harry Potter franchise.

Although Lawrence’s unwillingness to be involved in any Hunger Gamesprequel is a disappointment for fans, it does not come as a complete surprise. After all, her character’s main story arc reached a deciding conclusion in Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2. Furthermore, Lawrence may be correct in thinking that audiences might need some time off from Panem.

In fact, the final film in the franchise is currently at the top of the box office in the United States and has managed to gross over $550 million in worldwide sales. That being said, the movie will have a difficult time grossing more than Catching Fire , which took in $865 million in sales.

In addition to the low box office numbers, Lawrence’s career has really taken off since she joined the first film in the franchise. With Jennifer Lawrence set to be involved in a number of different projects in the coming years, it is less likely that she would have time to revisit her character in the future.

Speaking of Lawrence’s growing career, the actress is getting currently getting ready for the release of her newest movie, Joy . According to Variety , the movie is based on the real life story of Joy Mangano, original creator the Miracle Mop.

In speaking about playing a character based on a successful female inventor, Lawrence shared how the true story of Mangano truly inspired her. “Now we know her as such a matriarch and she started a multi-million dollar corporation, but she was basically a single mom who worked at Eastern Airlines and got told no a million times and kept fighting,” she explained. “I just thought that was so inspiring.”

In addition to her normal acting duties in Joy, Lawrence is also set to sing in the movie. As fans will recall, Lawrence also sang in Part 1 of Mockingjay, with her rendition of “The Hanging Tree.” According to Yahoo, her ability as a singer is not something that Lawrence counts as one of her better talents.

“I’ve never once put it out there that I think I can sing or that I even enjoy singing,” Lawrence stated. “Now it seems like I keep having to do it in every d**n film!”

Although fans are not likely to see Lawrence pick up a bow and arrow as Katniss Everdeen any time soon, they can watch her return to the big screens in Joy , which is set to open December 25.

Along with Lawrence, Joy stars Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper. This marks the third time the three actors will be included in the same film, as all three appeared in American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook .
