Jennifer Garner has dropped a hint that her movie industry titan of a husband could soon be taking on a new realm — the world of politics.
In an interview in September’s issue of Allure , Garner said Ben Affleck may soon taking on a more active role within politics.
Affleck has been building his political stature in recent years, but mostly through his work behind the camera and behind the scenes. He directed last year’s Argo, the Oscar-winning film about a plot to free Americans who had become trapped in Iran during the country’s revolution.
The 40-year-old Affleck has also founded the East Congo Initiative, an organization that raises public funds and has embarked on campaigns to raise awareness of the war-torn African region.
“Right now [Ben] feels like he can do more good for people politically from outside the system,” Jennifer Garner said.
But if Ben Affleck does decided to enter the world or politics formally , or even run for office, it seems he would have the support of his wife.
“Would I be surprised if one day he did go into politics? No. But not now,” she says. “I’m along for the ride.”
Jennifer Garner said if Ben Affleck did move into politics, she would stay behind to raise the couple’s three children — 7-year-old Violet, 4-year-old Seraphina, and 17-month-old Samuel. Garner says she was always cut out for motherhood, and recalled how as a child she “had a baby doll tucked under my arm everywhere I went” and ran a babysitting service when she was a teenager.
But though they make a good parenting team together, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner will remain separate in their Hollywood lives . Garner told Allure that she doesn’t want to work with her husband on projects, as audiences “don’t want to see a couple onscreen.” If only she could have warned Ben before he took the role with Jennifer Lopez in Gigli.
