Jeff Saturday is a member of the Indianapolis Colts once again.
Saturday, who played his final season with the Green Bay Packers, signed a ceremonial contract with the Colts today so that he can retire as an official member of the team.
Owner Jim Irsay wrote on Twitter: “Colts fans, Jeff Saturday will put on his Colts Jersey 1 more time and retire a Colt at Press Conference coming soon.”
Saturday, who said that he would be retiring after the 2012-13 NFL season , was released from the Packers on February 18.
NFL.com reports that Saturday played his first 13 seasons in Indianapolis and will now be able to end his career where it started.
Irsay didn’t say when the press conference would be but he did say that Saturday would have a “presence” with the team after retirement. It’s unclear what that role will be but the former all-star center is still widely admired by Colts fans and should easily be able to fit in with the organization.
Saturday handed the majority of his snaps during his long NFL career to future Hall Of Famer Peyton Manning. Neither Manning nor Saturday played with the Colts in 2012 but the two did manage to sneak in one final snap together at the Pro Bowl this year .
