Jay Mohr won’t be getting a dinner invitation from Danica Patrick anytime soon.
The comedian was hosting Friday night’s Sprint Cup banquet when he noticed Danica sitting close to the stage. He then said he hoped she didn’t feel uncomfortable with her position given that she’s not too used to being up front.
The joke got some laughs from the crowd, but both Danica Patrick and her boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. seemed not too pleased.
After the joke, Jay Mohr tried to smooth things over a bit, but it seemed Danica was still hurt from the joke.
The ironic part is that Jay was actually pretty accurate. Danica Patrick won the pole for the Daytona 500 and ran in front for a large portion of the race, but that was the only lead she would have all year. She never led any more laps and never finished in the top 10 for the rest of the season.
And even though she didn’t lead many races this year, Danica still managed to make headlines as one of the most visible racers. She and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. recently starred in country rapper Colt Ford’s music video for “Drivin’ Around Song.”
In the video, Danica and Ford play a couple who are waiting for Stenhouse to fix his car, and Danica flirts with Ricky so she can steal a set of keys to an all-terrain vehicle parked outside. Danica and Ford then go on a joyride (that includes an impromptu concert in the street) and make it back before Ricky ever notices.
Danica wasn’t the only target for Jay Mohr at the awards. The radio talk show host took shots at everyone, including future Hall of Famers like Mark Martin.
Danica Patrick will have her chance to be the one cracking the jokes on Tuesday when she hosts the ACAs with Trace Adkins. Jay Mohr might want to stay out of audience.
