Jaden Smith Confesses To GQ He Sees ‘No Difference Between Men And Women’s Clothing’

Jaden Smith has addressed those who have criticised his decision to front Louis Vuitton’s latest womenswear collection, confessing that he sees no difference between men and women’s clothing.

The 17-year-old actor, who is covering the latest issue of British GQ Style , is said to have been aware of the outrage he caused when the promotional shots for Louis Vuitton’s collection were officially unveiled.

Thousands of social media users felt as if Jaden’s intentions were to feminize men by supporting the idea of wearing women’s clothing for a fashion brand, calling the photoshoot anything but normal and ignorant for the teenager to partake in.

Smith clearly has a different view on people’s perception of how men are supposed to dress in order to live up to their masculinity, telling the magazine that people are too afraid to dress how they want in fear of being judged and scrutinized. “I feel like people don’t really get it,” he tells the outlet.

“I’m not saying that I get it, I’m just saying that I’ve never seen any distinction. I don’t see man clothes and woman clothes, I just see scared people and comfortable people,” he says, convinced that the idea of dressing a certain way is ludicrous. One should express themselves through the fashion they are most attracted to, without having to be labeled for how that particular person chooses to dress.

Jaden Smith is anything but bothered by the comments that people have made about him in regard to his style, since the scandalous Louis Vuitton womenswear collection wasn’t the first time Jaden sported a rather feminine look.

Just last year, Smith attended the Coachella music festival wearing what appeared to be a patterned skirt with a pair of Nike trainers. The combination itself left many confused, but again, the idea that womenswear and menswear aren’t to be categorized is once again stressed through Jaden’s unique fashion sense.

In correlation to Jaden’s style, when his father, Will Smith, was recently asked as to what he made of his son’s decision to dress in womenswear and consider it casual fashion, the actor reveals that the Karate Kid star is 100 percent fearless and could not care less about the opinions of others. “There’s a really powerful internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage,” he tells BBC Radio 1 Xtra .

“He will do anything. As a parent, it’s scary, it’s really terrifying but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think,” Will Smith concluded, firmly sticking to his son’s decision in changing the views of men’s clothing and interlinking it with women’s fashion.

Concluding his talk with GQ , Jaden Smith reveals that aside from what people think about his choice of style, he is desperate to focus more of his time on climate change and generally helping the world à la Leonardo DiCaprio. “I’m really working towards just fixing the whole planet Earth. I really just want to create a utopia on this planet.”

How do you feel about Jaden Smith’s views on fashion — should womenswear be worn by men, and do you agree with the idea that menswear needs to move forward with the times?
