Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith will both be back for ‘Karate Kid 2 ,’ reports Deadline . The sequel, however, has a new director – Breck Eisner. The 2010 original was directed by Harald Zwart and grossed $56 million in its opening weekend.
According to The Guardian , ‘Karate Kid 2’ will once again follow 15-year-old kung fu student , Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith), with his teacher, Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan).
The 2010 original followed Dre as he and his mother left Detroit for a new life in Beijing. It was titled ‘The Kung Fu Dream in China,’ so that there was no confusion over the fact that there was not any karate performed in the movie.
‘Karate Kid 2’ will mark another movie in a long list of movies done for actor Jackie Chan .
Chan, who combined Bruce Lee’s moves with the physical comedy of Buster Keaton turned 60 on April 7 th , reports Daily Press .
To celebrate his 60 th , Chan held a charity event in order to gain support a campaign known as Operation Smile for Chinese children with cleft lips, reports ChinaTopix.com . The charity event was a concert called “2014 Peace & Love & Friendship” and was held in Beijing on Monday night.
Chan is Operation Smile’s biggest fund-raiser and also helps out by visiting sites in rural areas where the organization is at work.
Chan was born in Hong Kong on April 7 th , 1954. It was when his parents moved to Australia when Chan was seven that he took up drama, martial arts and acrobatics at China Opera Research Institute.
Chan worked as a stuntman on the Bruce Lee films ‘Enter the Dragon’ and ‘Fists of Fury’ early on in his career. ‘Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow’ was his breakout role, but it was his role in ‘Drunken Master’ that pushed Chan into the mainstream spotlight.
After ‘Drunken Master,’ Chan did films such as ‘Police Story,’ ‘Rumble in the Bronx’ and many, many others.
The film that really grounded Chan as a Hollywood star was ‘Rush Hour,’ which he starred in with Chris Tucker in 1998. ‘Rush Hour’ ended up being a huge blockbuster.
After ‘Rush Hour’ Chan went on to star in many action films, including ‘Karate kid: The Kung Fu Dream in China.’
Now he will star in one more as he gets back into his role of Mr. Han in ‘Karate Kid 2.’
