Jack Osbourne became a father a little less than two months ago, but his first Father’s Day also brought some bad news—the son of music legend Ozzy Osbourne announced that he has multiple sclerosis.
The 26-year-old said he learned of the illness two weeks after daughter Pearl Clementine was born in April, the New York Daily News reported . He had already lost 60 percent of the vision in his right eye when he visited with doctors and learned of the diagnosis.
“I was just angry and frustrated and kept thinking, ‘Why now?’” Osbourne told People magazine .
Osbourne said he held onto his anger for a few days before realizing it would only make the situation worse. He said his new motto is “adapt and overcome.”
Osbourne said he is coming forward with his diagnosis to help raise awareness about the disease. Multiple sclerosis is a disease that attacks the central nervous system and can eventually cause muscle control and strength to deteriorate. It also affects vision, balance and thinking. The disease can affect people differently, ranging from only minor problems to others who become severely disabled.
Jack’s mom Sharon Osbourne, a host of “America’s Got Talent,” said she was taking the news hard and blaming herself for his condition.
“I keep thinking, ‘What did I do wrong? What did I eat or drink when I was pregnant?’ I feel like it’s somehow my fault,” she told Britain’s Hello magazine.
Osbourne’s health has been in the news before. In 2003 he checked himself into rehab for an addiction to the prescription painkiller OxyCotin.
